Adult & Adolescent Therapy

Whether struggling with anxiety, difficulty conceiving a child, significant life changes, friendships, depression, challenging relationships, school-related issues, an unfulfilling career, or so many other complicated moments, individual therapy provides a time and space to think about and prioritize yourself. I work closely with clients to consider what’s working, and what could be improved. Change often evokes a wide range of emotion. Individual therapy affords you the opportunity to process your thoughts, build skills and develop a plan to help you move forward. I approach my clients and the topics we cover in a compassionate and non-judgmental manner as we explore different routes you can take to get you where you’d like to be.

Parent-Focused Therapy

Parenting can be hard. Whether you’re striving to be on the same page as your partner when making decisions, struggling to set limits, coping with siblings who just can’t seem to get along, or supporting a child who’s having trouble in school, an outside and informed perspective can often help to identify different behavioral patterns and family dynamics. This can smooth the road for positive change. Your childhood experiences often impact the way you view the world and your parenting. When we think about how our past might cloud or enhance our role as parents, we make room for healthier ways of engaging with our children and other family members. The goal is a less stressful and more enjoyable family life.

Child Therapy

When a child struggles, everyone in their life feels that pain. I work one-on-one with children, as well as directly with their caregiver(s). Consistency and communication prove vital to assisting children as they grow and attempt to reach their full potential. Therapy should be fun, as that’s when children do their best work. Play, art, games, books and more traditional talk-therapy are interwoven during sessions to put children at ease and allow them to process their thoughts, share in meaningful ways, have the opportunity to practice doing things differently, and effect change. Children thrive when all of their stakeholders (therapist, caregiver(s) and school) work together toward a shared set of goals.

Children’s Groups

These groups are designed to support children who have a variety of needs. Groups typically include 5-8 children at a time; the focus can range from changing families, to perfectionism, anxiety and anger, and mindfulness. Group objectives seek to improve interpersonal communication, recognize and communicate feelings effectively, increase problem-solving capabilities and teach coping strategies. In addition to the mixed-sex groups listed above, a Girls’ Group specifically addresses friendships (both making and keeping friends), and acquiring the skills necessary to identify and maintain healthy peer relationships. Groups typically run for 10 weeks.

Corporate Speaking Engagements

Balancing work, family and personal interests has become increasingly difficult in our fast-paced world, yet we know that organizations function best when the people who populate them find that balance and successfully integrate the different aspects of their lives. Level Up provides creative programming focused on subjects like: Work/Life Balance, Parenting Through a Return to In Person Work, Understanding and Valuing Mental Health Needs in the Workplace, and many more. Melanie has a particular interest in engaging with individuals within an organization on their life outside of work, especially the complexities of parenting. She works with organizations to customize each speaking engagement, tailoring it to the specific needs of their corporate community. Your organization may suggest a topic relevant to its goals for growth and innovation.
